The Seeking Soul

The seeking soul
goes through the wilderness and through Gethsemane,
crosses the Red Sea and climbs Mount Calvary,
hears the pounding hooves of Egypt’s pursuing horses,
and feels the pounding nails of the Crucifixion
Before it reaches the Promised Land or emerges from the empty tomb.

The seeking soul
experiences the invisibility of the God
who has moved behind it to stop the advancing army
and mourns the absence of the risen Christ
who has gone before it into Galilee
Before it feasts on milk and honey or burns with Pentecostal fire.
