Within the Cloud

“Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night
left its place in front of the people.” — Exodus 13:22, (NRSV)

Do the low-hanging clouds trouble you, blocking the Light?
Does not God come to you in a pillar of cloud,
a fog that surrounds you, caresses you, penetrates you?

Do not be troubled:  constant light can blind you.
Let the cloud, in your unseeing, in your unknowing,
give you rest for a time.

When you may least expect it,
the surrounding cloud becomes
amazing colors, dancing light, filling you with fire.
And you are alive again.
